Translation

A star was waiting for you to notice it.  A wave rolls towards you out of the distant past.  I've been wanting to do that since the day I met you.  Only through communication will people live in peace.  Can you hear me twenty-four hours from now?  You're trying to find your place in the world. Nobody can fault you for that. We're going to open you up and find out how that brain of yours works.  With everything so out of whack right now, it somehow makes me feel more grounded just to see you. Fathers often want futures that their sons reject.  That struggle's as old as the human race.  Maybe this is fate's way of telling us we shouldn't have had a big wedding.  Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go.  So make the best of this test, and don't ask why.  I'm afraid I've been delusional a lot longer than three months.  But I think I have a pretty clear picture of things now.  There are quantities of human beings, but there are many more faces, for each person has several.  I came looking for you... And I found the proof.   When will you learn that obsession is just another word for passion?  I believe in the extraordinary and the possibilities that it holds, but I prefer to follow my own path.  Thanks, but I have to learn to stand on my own two feet.  Apparently, you're part canine, because we don't hear anything.  Are you going to stay cloistered on the family farm forever?  All the soarings of my mind begin in my blood.  More answers are close to home, where height creates the pressure that sustains life.  I am waiting.

Hidden Message

"Who killed Julian?" is revealed when the second key is arranged in ascending numerical order.  We learned the answer to this question-- Lillian Luthor, mother of Lex and Julian-- in "Memoria."

Interpretation

A star was waiting for you to notice it. A wave rolls towards you out of the distant past.

From Duino Elegies, by Rainer Maria Rilke.  The Kawatche saw the star that exploded, or knew that it was gone. Swann also followed the signal’s path out to where Krypton was.  And let's not forget that the Ritidian star chart mentions a star that appeared seemingly out of nowhere.  Additionally, in "Legacy," Lex said to Lana, "It's like the German poet Rilke said, 'A person isn't who they are during the last conversation you had with them. They're who they've been throughout your whole relationship.'"

I've been wanting to do that since the day I met you.

Pete said this to Chloe after he kissed her in "Truth."

Only through communication will people live in peace.

Clark read this Swann quote aloud in "Rosetta."

Can you hear me twenty-four hours from now?

The irritating Verizon Wireless guy, who always says in commercials, "Can you hear me now? Good," stars in a Smallville-themed ad. He's standing in front of the Smallville, Kansas town sign and delivers his famous line.  In "Crisis," Clark received a phone call that wouldn't really occur for another 24 hours... So this line was surely making a play on this episode as well as the ad.  Additionally, in "Crisis," Chloe said, "But it looks like we can rack up another one for our 'Can you hear me 24 hours from now?' theory."

You're trying to find your place in the world. Nobody can fault you for that.

Swann said this in "Legacy."

We're going to open you up and find out how that brain of yours works.

Dr. Garner said this to Clark in "Memoria."

With everything so out of whack right now, it somehow makes me feel more grounded just to see you.

Fathers often want futures that their sons reject. That struggle's as old as the human race.

Dr. Swann said this to Clark in "Legacy."

Maybe this is fate's way of telling us we shouldn't have had a big wedding.

I'm guessing Lex said this to Helen at some point...

Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go. So make the best of this test, and don't ask why.

These are lyrics from Green Day's song, "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)."

I'm afraid I've been delusional a lot longer than three months. But I think I have a pretty clear picture of things now.

Lex said this to Helen in "Phoenix," before he pushed her out of a plane...  Alas, poor Helen, we never knew ye.

There are quantities of human beings, but there are many more faces, for each person has several.

This is a quote from Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge by Rainer Maria Rilke.  This quote explains how people wear different masks in different situations with different people.  Again, Lex made a reference to Rilke in "Legacy" when he said to Lana, "It's like the German poet Rilke said, 'A person isn't who they are during the last conversation you had with them. They're who they've been throughout your whole relationship.'"

I came looking for you... And I found the proof.

Dr. Walden said this to Clark in "Calling."  The key was the proof Walden needed to expose Clark.

When will you learn that obsession is just another word for passion?

This is a Lionel quote from "Calling" regarding his fixation on the Kawatche caves.

I believe in the extraordinary and the possibilities that it holds, but I prefer to follow my own path.

Dr. Swann said this to Lionel in "Legacy."

Thanks, but I have to learn to stand on my own two feet.

Peter Parker (hero, Spider-Man) said this to Norman Osborne (villain, the Green Goblin) in Spider-Man.  Did Clark ever say something like this to Lionel...  or Lex?

Apparently, you're part canine, because we don't hear anything.

Chloe said this to Clark in "Rosetta" about herself and Lana when he heard the high-pitched noise of the octagonal disc for the first time.

Are you going to stay cloistered on the family farm forever?

All the soarings of my mind begin in my blood.

This is another quote by Rainer Maria Rilke.  Lex quoted Rilke to Lana in "Legacy," saying, "It's like the German poet Rilke said, 'A person isn't who they are during the last conversation you had with them. They're who they've been throughout your whole relationship.'"

More answers are close to home, where height creates the pressure that sustains life.

This is a quote from the Smallville comic (#7). It's part of a message from Dr. Arthur Walsh to Chloe through Carter Bickson, telling her to look in the Smallville water tower to find more answers for her Level 3 investigations begun in the Chloe Chronicles.

I am waiting.

This is the message Dr. Swann said was being transmitted in Kryptonian language from somewhere on Earth... But its recipient wasn't Clark... ("Legacy").  The message was from Jor-El to Jonathan, telling him that it was time for Clark to come to him.
