An Hour with Allison Mack

A "charming" cafe...

As some of you may know, I moved in with Tabby of allisonmack.com (Veaglarwen on KryptonSite) at the end of May.  Since Tabby runs Allison's official website, she keeps in close communication with her via email and phone, and the two have met in person on a few occasions.  Well, Tabby asked Allison if  I could come to their next meeting, and she said it'd be "very nice" to meet me.  On June 28, 2007, Tabby and I met Allison at what Allison called a "charming" little cafe in Studio City.  So, I got to do what every Chloe fan dreams of... Hang out with the fabulous Miss Mack herself for a whole hour, just chatting and enjoying her company.

I was running late, as usual.  I parked my little blue VW Beetle (I had one before Chloe did, mind you!) across the street from the cafe and stepped out of my car.  As I crossed the road, I noticed Tabby waving at me, and there next to her was Allison, grinning broadly.  I walked up to the two of them, and Tabby introduced me to the woman who needs no introduction.  I stuck out my hand, and Allison took it before she pulled me in for a hug.  "It's so nice to meet you," Allison said with a big smile.  "I've heard so much about you!"  And that right there, that instantly friendly and welcoming demeanor, is Allison Mack in a nutshell.

First impressions

A couple things caught my attention right away.  First, Allison's taller than I expected.  I'm 5'5" in flats, and she had at least an inch on me, although I do note she was wearing heels.  Second, Allison is very slim and well-toned, although some people have criticized her for looking too curvy onscreen.  You can tell how tiny she is from the picture!  Third, Allison has a bit of a Canadian accent.  I remember whispering to Tabby, "She doesn't sound like Chloe!"  That definitely helped me make the distinction between Allison Mack and Chloe Sullivan.

I'm sure everyone expects me to say nothing but positive things about Allison... And honestly?  I can't think of one negative thing to say about her!  Allison is, as a delightful song in the hilarious movie Reefer Madness joyously proclaims, "as sweet as Shirley Temple dipped in pudding."  She's very well-spoken, polite, warm, and incredibly engaging.  Her passion for life shines through in every word she says.  Allison has this really great way of making you feel welcome; I will admit I was extremely nervous and self-conscious for the first few minutes, but after that, her genuine niceness made me feel like I was simply sitting and talking with an old friend rather than being in the presence of my absolute favorite TV actress.

Chatting

We talked about Smallville, of course; we discussed Allison's character and past episodes we love and hate (we all had a good laugh over the disaster that was "Ageless," for example!).  Allison is adorable in that she seems bewildered by her popularity with fans.  She seemed surprised when I told her about Chloe's huge following on KSite, and it was awesome to chat with her about her fellow cast members and what the future holds for Chloe Sullivan.  Allison did, in fact, shared a few very intriguing spoilers with Tabby and me, but those secrets are staying locked securely within my vault.

Going back to how welcoming Allison is, I was flattered when she asked me to tell her about myself.  We talked about how I'm adjusting to life in California, my new job, how I'm going to grad school for clinical psychology in the fall, and other bits and pieces of my personal life.  I also enjoyed discussing her future plans after "Smallville"-- someday, maybe we'll see her name in lights on Broadway!

That's pretty much all I have to say about my time with Allison.  I look forward to seeing her again.  Email me if you have any questions, and I'll do my best to answer.
